Thanks for sharing your perspective.

I am indeed still a jerk from time to time, as I confessed in the article. We’re all human beings just doing our best. When I do find my behavior is out of line with my values, I try to be compassionate with myself and understand how I can do better in the future.

I don’t believe all programmers are jerks. I also have deep compassion for people who feel pressure from the industry and society to act like jerks.

Thankfully, I don’t see compassion as a narrative so much as a choice, and one that we get to make every day with each action we take.
